I think that one of the things that helped to kill MyBB or at least slow it down, was the continual core code changes and more so the themes were continually having to be upgraded.

Not only the theme creators get sick of it, but also the users who adopt the attitude "Why the heck do I need to go through this or that for a theme that will be useless very soon unless someone upgrades it" ?

And lots of times themes are either not upgraded or put on the back-burner.

One only needs to look at MyBB Community to see that there are individuals who make the occasional theme, but are they ever going to be there to upgrade them as required? And that forces one to adopt the attitude that most themes, no matter where they are produced are transient rather than permanent, so why should they do anything at all to get them.
