I have noticed quite a few members register here, just to spam there way to the 4 required posts. So I'm starting the Spam & Get Banned campaign.
It's quite simple really, we would have weekly on/off moderators.
Every week (or decided period of time) we would have an on/off moderator.
For instance let's say Nathangrubb wants the position, he would post in this thread saying he wants the MOTW (Mod of The Week) (Or decided amount of time), and if he qualifies for the position, he would be awarded the position.
At the end of his term, someone new would post for the position, and we would keep doing this every week.
Once everyone who wants the position has applied, we will rotate each week between the selected members.
This will really help to cut down spam.
Who else thinks this is a good idea?

After making the 4 required posts, you are able to download anything on the forum. But you don't have to worry about that, you have 99 posts :yes:
It does seem very stupid for people to join and then make 4 total spam posts just to download. They will get banned, so if they want to download more, they must then register again under a new IP and email address and make another 4 posts. If they spam again, they get banned again. You would think it would just be much easier and less time consuming to make 4 sensible posts once and be done with it. That is not too much to ask!
Roboto, I don't think switching moderators weekly is a good idea. For one, I like to pick out the moderators that I think are best suited to do the job, and for second, if the person is a good moderator, why would I want to demod him/her the next week for them to get replaced?

I know. If they would just realize they're going to get banned eventually when they spam, maybe they wouldn't do it!!
Well ok, I just thought it was a good idea.
And plus that person wouldn't be demoded for good, the position would be done in shifts, so they'd be mod again, when their shift comes up.
Here's my philosophy on this.
Spams going to happen, especially when you have a site built like Mybbthemes where you require X posts to download things. Instead of fretting over if somebody is going to spam, how about make it so new members posts must be moderated before being posted. That way if they do spam, you do not approve their posts and ban them on the spot. If the posts are quality ones, then approve them and edit the member so you do not need to moderate their posts anymore. This way real members won't have to deal with it.
The problem with that Killswitch, is that some days we get quite a few member registrations. So that's a bunch of posts that would have to be approved or disapproved. And there's not always a moderator on.

Well what is the required number of posts, 3 or 4? That shouldn't take that long, just look at the post and see if it is not spam. Should take no more than a couple secs per each post.
In one way that does make sense. If new members knew they wouldn't get immediate access, maybe they wouldn't make back to back posts that are barely above spam...though Roboto does have a point too. Though I go through all the posts anyway, so it might not take me anymore time than it already does. LOL
