FFW do you think its a good idea to raise the post count for download requirements? Say to 12 or 16?

Worth a thought, and a try!

PS: Credit to bluejade for mentioning it in another thread!
I think 16 might be a mite too high, but I think we could try for 10 or 12. :)

I think 6-8 should be fine. We don't want to raise it too high for 2 reasons.

It will raise spam, because those who want to download fast, will become even lazier when it comes to posting.

And it will also discourage members from even downloading at all, because of the required post count being too high, they'll pick they're bags up, and go download somewhere else.
OK removing this one was just flat out pointless. My comment here DID belong, even if it was said in a rather angry way. Fact of the matter is this thread is about the post requirement and so was my now deleted response. Raise the requirement = raise the amount of spam from new members. Plain and simple. I do not even support the requirement's existance, especially while the site's staff complains about spam. I do not and will not support it being increased or any other means of forcing people to be "contributing members" to download so long as the main purpose of the site for the general public is downloading and there is nothing making it blatently obvious to all visitors what they are going to be required to do in order to use the site.
Whether or not you support it is a moot point. People should not get something for nothing. If posting legibly is too much to ask, then you don't deserve the downloads...but you are right. It isn't too clear what is expected. I have pointed that out to FFW, so hopefully she will implement either a PM sent to all users or a clearly marked rules section.
 LOL if it were clearly marked ahead of time I'd have no problems with the requirement of posting first. Problem is with it NOT marked the whole site comes across almost as bad as the scam sites out there.

Oh, and though I don't think anyone seems to have noticed this but FFW has hers under the GNU licence... odds are they ARE available without doing anything here, since that leaves the market wide open for modification and redistrobution. So in other words, no one has to join to GET the files. It's just still a hassle to get them otherwise...so all this arguing about "getting something for nothing" is a moot point too.

I haven't been against the idea of wanting members to contribute anyway. I'm against the MEANS being used. There's a difference. Besides, it doesn't seem to me the current process is even getting anywhere... look at the site stats... about 4% of the members are active. How many new members have there been in the last month or two? They'll count as active as well, even if they only posted enough to get what they wanted. So I'm guessing around 3.5% of the people joining this forum are actually participating. That's a lot of wasted space in the DB. PLUS the site is attracting spam from members like that. AND the practices involved, as it stands, rate up there with mailinator.com...or rather with it's more common uses.
I'm sick and tired of your ranting and raving.

Life is just too short. Go outside, have some fun, it's summer for goodness sake. So quit bothering us with your useless posts, turn off your computer, and go outside.
Well I'm quite sure anyone who did know me would be stunned at that whole post. Thanks for the memories! That's all I have to say to that one...thanks for the lovely memories... I'd explain but considering I'm already hated I'm not giving anyone ammunition to attack me with. Those who know me would understand my comment.
I have no idea what this site is you keep referring to, nor do I care. We all have our own reasons for making our sites the way they are. This is FFW's site, and if she wants a minimum post requirement, which I fully support, that is her right. Heck, I have it much stricter on my own forum, and I have NO spam because of it. Maybe I have less participation, but that is better than having a bunch of useless members and/or posts.

If you can find her themes elsewhere, you are welcome to look elsewhere.

Though he probably can't read this now... Sure, somebody could get the files elsewhere, but that's only if somebody has downloaded them and redistributed them. Do you really think somebody is going to do this unless they want to give credit to themselves for creating it (which is against the law btw, as per GPL)? Say they use it on their forum, if some member asks where they got it, they wouldn't just put up a download link would they? They'd probably just refer the member to where they downloaded it, unless they have absolutely no respect for FFW.

People can sell (not necessarily money wise) things they make while it's still licensed under the GPL. That's exactly what she's doing.
