not keen on shout boxes my self but to have it open on given days would make it
more appealing to me .i feel the spoil the look of a site and detract from posts

Yeppers, you said sweet.
And that's a pretty good idea too.
With the ajax shoutbox, all I have to do is enable / disable it. The stuff stays in the templates. I could pop it up at different times, but it certainly wouldn't be on all the time.

That would be sort of lame to plan out when we would open the shoutbox. How about, we enable it just when a lot of members are online?

Hah, I like Killz idea, but then we'd be bored, because no one would be on the chat
Since most of us are teens who go to public school, the chats should be planned at after school hours
I still don't think they should be planned. That's too boring. Then everyone *knows* when it's going to appear.
I think it's more fun if I just activate it randomly.
